About the cDNA Library

Origin

The cDNA Library is comprised of 15,289 UniGene clusters, each of which represents a unique human gene. At least one sequence in each cluster corresponds to a physical cDNA clone that is available from the IMAGE consortium. The cDNA Library of clones has been re-arrayed from the original libraries by Research Genetics. The cDNA Library sequences represent a collection of "potentially interesting" genes with which to test large-scale, high-throughput gene expression technologies.

Criterion

All sequences selected from inclusion in the cDNA Library meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Correspondence to a named or functionally-cloned gene
  • Inclusion on the Human Transcript Map
  • Significant similarity to known proteins in the SwissProt Database
  • Specific research interest of collaborators

All sequences meet the criterion of availability as a physical cDNA clone;

Breakdown

Category Number of Clones

Functionally Cloned Genes 6,842
On the Human Transcript Map 7,679
Protein Similarity 1,958
Of Specific Research Interest 364

Total Sequences* 15,289

*The sum of the numbers for the 4 categories is greater than the total number of sequences because some sequences fall into more than one category.
