Figure 3. An overview of the most common gains and losses reported in our study of 38 breast cancer cell lines as well as 17 published CGH studies of 698 breast tumors. The number of tumors analyzed in each study is indicated in the parenthesis. The green squares indicate the most common gains in a particular study, and the red squares the most common losses. Squares with both colors represent a gain and a loss for the same chromosome arm. Approximately ten of the most common changes were indicated for each study. Despite of the similarities of genetic changes observed, many of these studies focussed at a specific subtype of breast cancer. Study 1 focussed on grade I tumors, studies no. 2 and 6 on grade III tumors, no. 3 on high grade DCIS, no. 4 on node-positive tumors, nos. 5, 7, and 15 on node-negative tumors, no. 8 on hypodiploid cancers, no. 12 on infiltrating lobular breast cancer, and study no. 14 on metastatic tumors.
